Being able to get a direct sales business running and making sales is not everything that you need to be successful in this business. You need to be able to recruit others to be part of your team. Once you have gotten people to join you, tendency is, you will get all hyped up about continually growing your business so you can stop working as hard as you used to. But the question is: is it really advisable to do that? Once you become a team leader, you’ll need to share your efforts on some different areas of the business. You still need to work your own business, but now you are responsible for others as well. What can you do to be successful as a team leader? Here are some tips and suggestions that will go a long way in making you a team leader anyone would be proud to work under. • Put others’ needs above yours. A good team leader knows that it will no longer be just about him and his business. He will learn to be able to put his down line’s needs above his own because he knows that the success of his people will reflect his management skills as a leader. • Set your priorities right. Be able to put things in the order of their importance. Be organized and be able to set important things apart from what are not. Show your team how to do the same, too. • Don’t just talk the talk. Walk the walk, too. Lead by example. Practice what you preach. Don’t say things you’re not up to fulfilling. • Overcoming obstacles. You know how to work past any objection in this business. You know your product or service well enough to know what possible reasons people have for not wanting to purchase and have answers available to prevail over them. • Be persistent. In this business, as with any business, rejection is inevitable. This shouldn’t stop you from persevering though. You must withstand the hardships until you have overcome them. • Have a system that works for you. Working system helps you organize and do work faster. Create one that gets positive results. Realize that not every system works for everybody. Do not stop others from creating their own. Help them instead. • Motivate. You should not crumble with the situation when things fall apart. No matter what the circumstances are, keep a positive outlook and encourage your team. • Set goals. You not only have to set goals for yourself, but your team as well. Know what an achievable goal is and what is out of reach. Be able to help others reach their goals by breaking them up into manageable steps. • Be consistent. You must hold regular meetings and reward your team members for a job well done frequently. Your recruits want and need you to be consistent with their training. A good leader attends the Annual Conference or Seminar and encourages their team to do the same. The Annual Conference is the best place to be built up, encouraged and motivated! • You’re not in this just to make money. Know your product, use your product and like it! You must believe in what you sell and only sign up those who do it too – they make the best sales people.
